Hold a general-class license, surveying property for HF antenna. Purchased a used Icom 718 per Scout's recommendation on podcast, included a power supply and Signalink for access to digital modes. Antenna first, then RaspberryPI as the portable computer.
Plan on listening & learning a hell of a lot more than speaking (questions for understanding excluded).
