Hey all. I go by Burd, usually. I'm near Cincinnati, in the southern Ohio/Northern Kentucky area.

Aside from amateur radio and all that, I like to write, and I enjoy playing tabletop games & TTRPGs as well. I've been around in adjacent communities that were similar to what you all got going in here; looks like a place I could get used to as well.

I'm not as much of an outdoorsman as I presume most of you all are, to be frank. Moreso someone interested in everything to do with signals intelligence, operational matters, military logistics and other similar topics in general. I know a fair bit about firearms, or at least I can dissemable and reassemble a WASR without too* much issue, lol.

In any case, it's good to meet you all.

I've been to Chicago once or twice; went around sightseeing. I didn't know about the complete and tourable Type IX u-boat that the city's musuem had until I was practically in its exhibit! I read the book that its crew put together and I would recommend it, in general.

Fun(?) little tidbit I just recalled from that book: During one of its latter patrols, their long-standing albiet disliked captain commited suicide via handgun whilst the uboat was being depth charged. This was the only known incident of anyone commiting suicide due to, as articles say, the stress of said matter... but that's not the whole story! It was never said outright, but it was heavily implied that said captain was romantically involved in/with his former frst officer. Said officer had been transferred away, then pronounced presumed KIA aboard another submarine just prior to that particular patrol. They really did not like the guy, either, lol.

Ooh! That's interesting. I've not been in Appliachia proper, only its foothills, but even there... I truly don't mean to insult your homeland, but what they say is true; it had very strange vibes. I recall driving with a friend into the eastern Kentucky pseudo-Appalachian woodland, around wherein we drove through a small town that had a lot of people sitting outside ... I don't even know - I suppose they were motels (constructed out of bare wood(???)) - all of whom stared at us as we drove through.
