Re: Custom Kits
How about kits for small children? On that topic, what kind of tourniquets do you recommend for babies/toddlers who's arms are too small for a CAT?

Re: Custom Kits
I second Mike’s idea. It’s funny, I was just thinking about this Saturday night when I took the family out to dinner. We don’t eat-out much, tough with a 1 & 3 year-old, but sitting in a busy restaurant got me thinking “I need a DFAK” (diaper bag first aid kit).

Re: Custom Kits
That's a good question, I would like to know also. I keep a cat with me, but is a rat better for kids or is there a Fisher price (my first tourniquet) around somewhere?
Just a dude, here to learn and add if I can, very honored to be in the presence of all of you.

I now know what I'm calling the training CAT at the next EMR class...
When they are preparing for war, those who rule by force speak most copiously about peace until they have completed the mobilization process.

Re: Custom Kits
Cat's will work on limbs as small as 5 inches in circumference. A toilet paper roll is 5.5. If the limb is smaller than that you can use a pressure bandage wrapped as tightly as possible to create enough pressure to occlude the blood flow. Or just use direct pressure on the brachial artery.

Re: Custom Kits
Diaper bags are great places to keep extra medical equipment. I kept an extra tourniquet, 3-4 packs of rolled compressed gauze, 3-4 triangle bandages, 2-3 ace wraps, and a roll of medical tape in ours.bibitor wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 11:12 am I second Mike’s idea. Re: Custom Kits
What about using the OALES with the Quikclot? I get the addition of expiration dates, but I think it adds significant capability in a smaller package. I've switched over to them. And while they need some additional training, I think they're well worth the time and cost.

Re: Custom Kits
The OALES are great. My big biff with commercial pressure dressings and hemostatic impregnated gauze is that it is very cost-prohibitive. Neither will work with shitty skill. You still have to know the basics of wound packing. Ask me how I know.
