Re: Jäger Course Concept
I’m interested in this course. Do you have a pack list and a recommended ruck? Some of us may need to start gathering a few things. About how much should our pack weigh?
Re: Jäger Course Concept
I'll be writing detailed articles on American Partisan on this topic over the next few weeks/months. I might even make videos. For now, I can say that your pack should weigh no more than 45 pounds dry. Overly heavy packs detract from the strength of light infantry; being light and mobile.Rick O’Shea wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 2:54 am I’m interested in this course. This requires a paradigm shift for most Americans. We tend to think that we need a lot more in the field than we actually do. You need to sacrifice some comfort while stationary to be more comfortable on the move.

So excited for this series. Something I have planned to do this week is to weigh my gear for OPs, Field comms, and patrolling and see what various combinations of gear weighs and how it packs in my ruck. I'm always looking for things I can cut out of the packing list to minimize weight and bulk.

I'm in.
And you are 100% correct , most of us bring far too much in the field. That will be a tough sell on day one. I am reminded of the "gear dump" that the guys at Mountain Crossings do for AT hikers: they on average dump something like 8 pounds of crap from hikers' kit. Imagine if someone did that to the usual "bugout bag". Now, imagine if that person was from the UL hiking community. Chaos, absolute chaos. it would be epic.

I like this. I’ve learned over the year of being on this forum that there’s a lot of truth to the phrase “Skills that killz”.Mike wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 3:24 am

Agree on the need for a paradigm shift, we as a people have become to dependent on gear fo cover for our lack of skills. The better ones field craft skills the less gear they will need.
I think given where you are trying to take this concept a five days class will be necessary, not all deficiencys appear on the first or second day of an extended field exercise.

I have put in for that week off (and for a couple of days afterwards to recover) - Will advise.

Re: Jäger Course Concept
I talked to Mike and I am sure I could handle the course at my age and poor fucking fitness. It would also beat my ass. Mike, I will be coming to your class eventually when I have the opportunity, and from hanging with you, not only do I think you have things to teach you are different than NCScout. I implore everyone to check out this course! Also I see you have arma.....
