Jäger Course Concept

Post by Mike »

I'm working on a concept for a "Jäger" light infantry course. What I currently have in mind is a 5-day course where students live off of just what's in their packs and learn how to function as true light infantry. Topics that I intend to cover include:

Immediate Action drills
Patrolling
Patrol Base operations
Using vehicles for covert insertion/extraction
Camouflage
Small unit tactics (ambushes, raids, defense)
Land Navigation
Squad-level coordination and small-unit leadership
Observation post emplacement and use

I won't be able to set this up until about next year at the earliest (pending a big enough training area), but I wanted to see if there'd be any interest in this sort of course. Also, if y'all have any suggestions, I'm open to hear them.

Sounds good. I am assuming camo will include a nightvision and thermal component?

Something no one I've seen teach is dealing with UAVs in a hands-on manner, just a thought provided you could get your hands on a drone or two, especially one with FLIR. Personally, it would be good to get hands on experience beyond reading the manuals on UAV reaction drills/mitigation techniques.

That's a great idea. Yes, if I can get my hands on thermals or a drone (which I'm working on) it will be used in the course. Alternatively, if students want to bring drones I will allow them to be used during training.

Great course concept. Re: the duration, 5 days may be a bit long for most prospective students, 3-4 days seems like a sweet spot. Would be a lot to cram in I'm sure.

I like this! Me personally I want to get as much training as my wallet and employer will permit!

I definitely hear you there. My original concept was a 3-day class, but when I started going into details I realized that I couldn't cover as much as I wanted as thoroughly as I wanted to, so I made it 5. I'm thinking this might be a once/year thing for that reason, since I still have a day job just like you guys, and can only take so many days off.

If there'd be enough interest, I may be able to break this down into 2 smaller courses during the rest of the year for those who can't take a week off in the summer.

I'm interested. I think your location is about a day's drive from me. Multi-day courses take the sting out of needing two days for driving.

Depending on the day and or cost... I'd go. Got an idea of a round count?
Why is it so hot? Why am I in this hand basket? Where are we going?

Round count would be minimal. Ballpark estimate would be about 60 rounds, if that.

Ok, very affordable. Just was gonna have to figure more overtime for something like a half a case or so. Thanks!
